Synopsis:

I’m Jake Masterson, single dad, and the General Manager of Seattle’s NHL team. I walked away from a career as a player so I could raise my daughter. For the last twenty-plus years, Queenie has been my main priority, but now she’s getting married.

And there’s a small complication.

A beautiful, sexy complication named Hanna.

She’s my son-in-law’s older sister. Or at least that’s how they were raised. The truth is a little more scandalous than that.

I’ve been drawn to her from the moment I laid eyes on her. And I spent months trying to keep a lid on that attraction.

Until we finally give in.

It starts with one searing kiss, but quickly ends with us between the sheets—and in the shower, and the hot tub, you get the picture—and turns into months of sneaking around.

Here’s the problem: we live on opposite ends of the country. It can’t be anything but casual. And as I’ve already said…it’s complicated.

But when Hanna finds out she’s pregnant…suddenly things get real serious.

When I first saw that this book was coming out, I was a little skeptical as both Hanna and Jake are parents of adults. But the story was amazing and I absolutely loved them as a couple. I can relate as I am in that age range and some of the scenes were really funny. The surprise pregnancy was well written and not too far out there to be real. Loved catching up with all the players and their wives, especially Alex and Violet. You can never have too much Violet. So glad that story was part of the All In series.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series from Helena Hunting and A Kiss For A Kiss was a fantastic addition featuring two characters in their 40s who go from friends, to lovers, to parents. Yes, you read that right and honestly that’s not even the complicated part.

Jake’s daughter Queenie is marrying Hanna’s son Ryan (although he was raised as her brother) and they’ve spent months working on plans for the engagement party and the wedding with each interaction building their friendship and supercharging their attraction. From the first moment they met (in A Secret For A Secret) there was a spark or as Queenie called it “zing” and following the engagement part for their children they act on it even though they both know it complicates an already complicated family dynamic. Following Queenie and Ryan’s wedding they spend the weekend enjoying each other before parting as friends agreeing to put their kid’s first only life has other plans when Hanna turns up pregnant.

I enjoyed this story quite a bit as these two people who had to make tough choices as teens (one to become a single father and one who allowed her parent’s to adopt and raise her son as their own) navigate a high risk pregnancy and all the changes a baby would once again bring into their lives in their 40s. This story was super emotional on a number of levels including watching Hanna finally explain to her mother how hard it was to not get credit for any of the raising of Ryan when she was there day in and day out helping with everything and never being acknowledged for any of it. Ryan coming to grips with how much Hanna was there for him all his life never realizing how hard it was for her pretending to just be his big sister and also confused about his feelings of her pregnancy. Jake worrying how much an infant will change his life when he just finally got it back, then feeling guilty for thinking that and also worrying he might do something to screw things up with Hanna. This story felt a bit heavier than Hunting’s normal books, but that wasn’t a bad thing. There were some serious issues dealt with, but they were done with caring, compassion, love and of course at times humor.
