I loved the way these two met, their flirty banter, and the fact that once Aiden knew she was dating someone he was respectful of that even as their friendship grew. ~ Slick – Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Lucky.

The one adjective used to describe my entire hockey career. I prefer to call it hard work, at least I did until my game went to complete crap. I haven’t scored in eight games and my team owner is talking about trading me.

I’ve never believed in superstitions.

Never needed one. I suppose I was “lucky” in that way. But now the best way to refer to me is desperate. I’d wear the same socks for an entire year just to be the high-scoring center I used to be.

Imagine my surprise when after spending New Year’s Eve with a woman, I score a hat trick in the next game—that’s three goals in one game for you non-hockey lovers.

Now, I have to track  her down and bribe her to do it again before every game. Get your mind out of the gutter, I’m not talking about it.

I find her and when I get to know her better, I end up spending more time thinking about her thanmy game, but she’s made it clear she wants no part of me. She’s going to learn that I didn’t become a professional hockey player without having to fight for what I want.

My Lucky #13 is the first book in Piper Rayne’s new Hockey Hotties series and I thoroughly enjoyed this refreshing story.  Aiden Drake is the captain of the Florida Fury NHL hockey team and Saige is a social media manager who just happens to be dating Aiden’s agent when they meet at a party. Aiden is in the worst slump of his career and while he’s never believed in superstitions before, but after an incident with Saige his slump is broken and he now believe he needs her help to continue playing well and hopefully not be traded. I loved the way these two met, their flirty banter, and the fact that once Aiden knew she was dating someone he was respectful of that even as their friendship grew.

I loved Aiden, he was smart, funny, sweet, sexy, a good friend, a good son, brother, uncle, cousin, you name it. Frankly, he was a good guy and while he wasn’t a saint, for a star player and captain of a team he was pretty low key. He has a good reason why he doesn’t do social media and why he doesn’t trust the press and it comes from a good place. While there was no doubting he wanted Saige from the first time he spotted her, it was also obvious that he just wasn’t after her for sex. He enjoyed talking to her, making her laugh, bantering with her and honestly, he was pretty devastated to realize she was his agent’s date.

Overall I liked Saige although I didn’t agree with her not giving Aiden a fair chance because of her ex-boyfriend’s bad behavior and the fact that she didn’t correct Aiden’s assumption about her relationship status which made me feel like she was playing games. I did find it interesting she wanted to help Aiden even when he had decided he didn’t need it and the fact that she handled his social media with care because of what happened in the past. They had great chemistry and I believe she’s a good person, I think for me for most of this book I felt like Aiden deserved someone better.

I loved meeting several of the Florida Fury players and the bromances between them, it was easy to see this was a team that trained hard, played hard, and loved to give each other sh*t.

My Lucky #13 kicks off this series on a high note, it was smart, funny, and very sexy. I’m looking forward to the next books in this series.
